The brief

Brief

The Slovak government police sector operates K9 sections at regional and district level for patrol, search, narcotics, explosives and crowd duty. Service dogs are housed at the station between deployments, in fixed outdoor kennels that have to take year-round weather in the Slovak climate, daily wash-down, and rough use by working animals.

Tanax Containers supplies the K9 kennel build for the Slovak government police sector: a modular outdoor steel kennel finished by hot-dip galvanising to ISO 1461, with sealed weldments, drained concrete-ready bases and a 24-month warranty. The brief was a corrosion-resistant, low-maintenance, drillable kennel that the dog handler can hose down without painting it back to life every season.

Scope of delivery

Scope

  1. 01Engineering review of the police K9 section's per-station layout requirements.
  2. 02Steel procurement under EN 10204 3.1 traceability for the structural members and panel frames.
  3. 03Fabrication on the welding line under EN ISO 3834-2 production-level qualification, feeding into the EN 1090-1 EXC2 chain.
  4. 04Bar grilles, mesh panels, dividing partitions, sliding service hatches and lockable door leaves fabricated as welded assemblies before galvanising, so that the zinc coats every internal surface of the joint, not just the external face.
  5. 05Hot-dip galvanising of the complete kennel run to ISO 1461, dipping the assembled panels after welding for full inside-and-outside zinc coverage.
  6. 06Drainage detailing on the base rails, so wash-down water leaves the kennel rather than ponding under the dog.
  7. 07Delivery on CMR to the receiving police station and a 24-month warranty on the build.
  8. 08Per-unit handover dossier. material certificates, weld procedures, zinc coating thickness report against the ISO 1461 minimum, geometric inspection.

Specification

Specification

The kennel is a welded steel structure: hot-rolled frame, mesh and bar grille panels, sliding service hatch and a hinged lockable handler door, all built up as welded assemblies and then hot-dip galvanised as one. Galvanising to ISO 1461 lays a metallurgically bonded zinc layer over the steel, inside and outside the welded joint, so the rust path that normally opens up at a painted weld seam after a few wet winters is closed off from the start. Minimum coating thickness follows the ISO 1461 table for the section sizes used in the kennel; the thicker structural members carry the heavier zinc spec, the lighter mesh panels carry the lighter spec, both documented per unit.

The kennel run is sized for a working police dog: full standing height clear of the roof, a partitioned sleeping bay isolated from the run, mesh airflow on the run side and a solid back wall on the prevailing-weather side. The base rails sit on a concrete pad poured by the station's local works, with drainage falls cast into the slab and the kennel bolted down through pre-located fixing points. Sliding food and water hatches let the handler service the dog without opening the main door.

Welding qualification: MAG 135 to EN ISO 9606. Robotic welding handled by 2× Daihen FD-V8L on a 14 m track and a Daihen FD-B6L 6-axis. Plasma cutting (3 to 15 mm) and CNC laser cutting (TRUMPF TruLaser 3040, 3.2 kW, max 20 mm) feed the line. Geometric inspection is closed out on the FARO Arm Prime 10 before the assemblies leave the line for the galvaniser.

In depth

Outcome

A standard kennel package for the police K9 sections that takes Slovak outdoor service without seasonal repainting, washes down without sloughing paint into the drain, and ships with a 24-month warranty on the build. The hot-dip galvanised finish to ISO 1461 is the operative spec: the same finish used on highway barrier steel and substation structural work, applied to a kennel that lives outdoors and gets hosed twice a day. Maintenance for the station reduces to mechanical checks on the door, hatch and lock; the structure itself does not need to be painted.

The police K9 kennel programme sits alongside Tanax's wider police-sector container work as a second strand of the portfolio, and is the explicit reference for the dog-kennel line of the Special Purpose catalogue.
