The brief

Brief

The partner is a US firefighter training specialist whose live-fire props, gas-based fire technology and ready-to-train container systems are used by airline, military, oil and gas, petrochemical, fire department and training academy customers across North America. The partnership with Tanax Containers covers the steel structure half of that catalogue. Tanax builds the trailer-mounted training module: a road-legal, black-finish steel cell engineered to take repeated thermal cycling, intense smoke loads and the kind of trainee abuse that field training generates over a unit's service life. Modules ship to the partner's US programmes and feed the EU pipeline that the partnership is currently opening up.

Scope of delivery

Scope

01 / 03

Trailer chassis integration

cross members, jacking points, lighting, axle and brake mounting interfaces, road-legal sign-off package.

  • Engineering review of the partner's module geometry against EN 1090-1 EXC2 fabrication rules.
  • Material procurement with EN 10204 3.1 traceability on the structural steel.
  • Welding under EN ISO 3834-2 production-level qualification, MAG 135 welder qualification per EN ISO 9606.
  • Diamond-plate steel flooring welded into the chassis, slip-rated for wet, soot-loaded boot traffic.
  • Sandblasting to ISO 8501 Sa 2.5 followed by black-finish multi-coat paint system rated for repeated heat-and-cool service.
  • FARO Arm Prime 10 geometric inspection at QA gate before the partner's training fit-out goes in.

Specification

Specification

The trailer-mounted training module is a welded steel cell on a road-legal chassis. Structural frame is hot-rolled section, sized for repeated thermal cycling rather than for the single-trip loads a standard ISO box is engineered against. Diamond-plate flooring is welded directly to the cross members so the floor surface is the structure and there is no plywood deck to degrade under live-fire conditions. Walls and ceiling are smoke-rated: the lining sequence is specified to handle the smoke density that the partner's SG-series generators produce in a closed cell, with sealed cable and pipe penetrations for the gas, control and ventilation services that the partner fits on the back end. Door and hatch lines run on EPDM gaskets so the cell holds smoke long enough for a trainee evolution.

Exterior finish is black: sandblast to Sa 2.5, primer coat, top coat in the black livery specified for the trailer body, paint thickness verified per coat. The black finish is part of the brand the trainee sees on the apron, and the paint system underneath is chosen to take repeated thermal cycling without lifting.

Welding line: 2× Daihen FD-V8L robotic cells on a 14 m track plus a Daihen FD-B6L 6-axis handle the high-repeat structural seams. Kemppi MIG / MAG handles fit-up and any manual joints around the chassis and trailer interfaces. Plasma cutting from 3 to 15 mm and a TRUMPF TruLaser 3040 (3.2 kW, up to 20 mm) feed the line.

In depth

Outcome

US deliveries are active under the bilateral partnership. The first run-rate units are in the field, the chassis and structure package is in series production, and EU markets are now ramping behind the US programme. The fire-and-rescue training partnership is the project that confirms Tanax's USA entry: a US training-equipment specialist taking series steel structures from a Bánovce nad Bebravou production line, finished and freighted out of Slovakia, is the proof point that the same EN 1090 EXC2 welding line that runs a multi-year government defense framework runs cleanly into North American end-customer service. On the EU side the same module specification is the spine of the European fire-and-rescue training pipeline that the partnership is now building.
